The Board Members and I invite you to the Louisiana Orthopaedic Association Annual Meeting, February 15-16, 2019, at the Hilton Riverside in New Orleans.
Dr. Paul Celestre, this year’s Program Director, has designed an outstanding agenda. We have three dynamic speakers from the worlds of joint replacement, spine and trauma. We also have timely lectures and symposia dealing with such topics as pain control in the face of the opioid crisis, concussion evaluation and management, and overseeing implant costs in the era of value-based care.
Dr. Thomas Sculco, who grew up in beautiful Westerly, Rhode Island, was Surgeon-in-Chief at Hospital for Special Surgery from 2003 to 2014 and is currently Surgeon-in Chief Emeritus. He is also Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. He was a founding Member of the Knee Society and served as President in 2016. He will speak on the costs of new technology in medicine, and on the morbidity associated with bilateral knee replacements.
Dr. John Dimar, an Air Force Veteran, is a Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Louisville, Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedics at Norton Children’s Hospital, and Staff Surgeon at the Norton Leatherman Spine Center. Dr. Dimar will lecture about the spinopelvic relationship and radiation exposure for patients and physicians.
Dr. Joseph Hsu is Professor of Orthopaedic Trauma at Carolina’s Medical Center, Director of the Limb Lengthening and Deformity Service, and Vice Chair of Quality at the Atrium Health Musculoskeletal Institute. Dr. Hsu is a graduate of West Point and Tulane and Charity trained. He will speak about his research involving pain control and the opioid epidemic.
LAMMICO will continue to provide members who attend the LAMMICO sessions on Friday and Saturday a 15% discount on their medical malpractice premiums.
The President’s Reception will be held Friday Evening, February 15, in the Exhibitors’ Hall. The winner of the hotly contested Top Resident Paper will be announced at that time. There will be an e-poster session and we will continue with the prize giveaways to meeting attendees.
We are very much looking forward to seeing you in New Orleans for the 2019 LOA Annual Meeting.
